Hence Day Counter — Privacy Policy

Effective date · September 3, 2026 Applies to · the Hence Day Counter iPhone app and its widgets, version 1.x, distributed through the Apple App Store

The short version

Hence does not collect your data. There is no account, no server of ours, no analytics or tracking code, no advertising, and no third-party software inside the app. Your trackers stay on your iPhone and, if you use iCloud, in your own Apple Account. We cannot see them.

The rest of this page explains that in detail, including the few places where Apple — not us — handles something on your behalf.

Who we are

Hence Day Counter (“Hence”) is published by The Left Door Lab, an independent studio based in California, United States. The publisher of record is shown on the App Store listing.

What Hence does not do

The only network traffic Hence generates is to Apple’s own systems, described below.

Your trackers

Everything you enter into Hence — tracker names, notes, dates, times, emoji, and settings — is stored on your iPhone in the app’s private storage. Widgets read from that same on-device storage.

iCloud safety copy. To make sure you never lose a date, Hence keeps a mirror of your trackers in iCloud using Apple’s Key-Value Store. This copy lives inside your Apple Account, is protected by Apple’s iCloud security, and is used only to restore your trackers if you reinstall the app or move to a new iPhone. We have no access to your Apple Account or to anything in it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy and iCloud terms.

If you would rather not keep an iCloud copy, turn off iCloud Drive for Hence in your iPhone’s iCloud settings, or sign out of iCloud. Hence works fully without it; you simply lose automatic restore. Deleting the app on all your devices and clearing the app’s iCloud data (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage) removes the copy.

Export and import. You can export all your trackers as a file and save or send it anywhere you choose using the iOS share sheet, and import such a file back later. Where that file goes is entirely your decision; Hence does not send it anywhere on its own.

App lock and Face ID

If you turn on “Require Face ID,” Hence uses Apple’s Local Authentication framework. Apple’s system tells Hence only whether authentication succeeded or failed. Hence never receives, stores, or has any way to access your face data, fingerprint data, or device passcode. Widgets are not affected by the app lock.

Notifications

Hence version 1.0 has no notifications. A future version may offer optional reminders (for example, when a tracker reaches a milestone). If and when that ships, all notifications will be scheduled locally on your iPhone. There is no push server, and nothing about your trackers leaves the device to deliver them. The notification permission will be requested only if you choose to turn reminders on, and can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.

Purchases

Hence offers a one-time in-app purchase, processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment, receipt, and any refund. We never receive your name, email address, payment details, or billing address. Apple provides us with aggregate sales figures that do not identify individual buyers. Whether you have purchased is checked on your device against Apple’s records each time the app launches; Hence does not store a copy of your purchase on any server of ours. Apple’s handling of your purchase is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy and the App Store terms.

Crash and diagnostic data (Apple, opt-in)

iOS includes a setting, Share With App Developers (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), that is off unless you have turned it on. If it is on, Apple may send us crash logs and basic usage statistics for Hence. This data is collected and processed by Apple, is not linked to your identity when it reaches us, and does not include the content of your trackers. We use it only to find and fix bugs. You control it entirely through that iOS setting, and Apple’s Privacy Policy governs it.

If you contact us

If you email hence.privacy@theleftdoorlab.com or our support address, we will receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not share it. You can ask us to delete the correspondence at any time by emailing the same address.

This website

This policy is hosted on a site served through Cloudflare. As with any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address and browser request data to deliver the page and protect it from abuse; Cloudflare’s handling of that data is described in Cloudflare’s privacy policy. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookie-free and reports only aggregate page-view counts; it does not identify individual visitors. The site sets no cookies of its own and carries no advertising. The two Hence pages — this policy and the Hence page — load nothing from any third party. The home page and the contact page load their typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests those font files from Google and Google receives your IP address and the usual request details in the process; Google’s handling of that is covered by Google’s privacy policy. Apart from those font files, nothing on this site loads from anyone but Cloudflare.

Children

Hence is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region) and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because the app collects no data, there is nothing for a parent to request or delete from us.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and others give you rights over personal data an organization holds about you. In Hence’s case, we hold none — so there is nothing for us to access, correct, port, or delete on your behalf. Your trackers are yours: delete the app and, if you like, its iCloud data, and they are gone. The one exception is email you have sent us, which we will delete on request.

If you believe we hold data about you that we shouldn’t, write to hence.privacy@theleftdoorlab.com and we will look into it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If Hence ever changes what it does with data — for example, if a future version adds a feature that needs something new — we will update this page, change the effective date at the top, and call it out in the App Store release notes for that version. Continuing to use Hence after a change means you have accepted the updated policy. We will not add tracking, advertising, or third-party analytics under an existing version of this policy.
